Hi, I am Anne.
This website consists of travel journals and some random observations interspersed between trips; though you will probably learn more about me from the pages of this site, here are some things that I like:
Travel. My greatest love is Latin America, and I’ve spent a lot of my vacation time traveling throughout Central and South America. I’ve taken two month-long cycling tours, through Patagonia and through Central America, from Cancún to Honduras and back.
My bicycle. I love my bike both as a form of recreation and transportation. I have not driven my car since March, 2007 and have instead traveled by bike and public transportation (well, and a few planes…). I am more fit, happy and organized because of the change, and my workday ends when I get on the bike, not at the end of a frazzling, traffic-filled commute home. The pace is slower on a bicycle; it allows me to enjoy the world around me as I travel through it. It removes the barriers around me: I can greet people that I pass, observe the colors, sounds and scents of seasons as they change.
Food. I love foods of all sorts, too many types and variations to list. I love to cook as well, especially fresh food from the garden, and of course desserts. I like trying odd foods too, from duck kidney to guinea pig to that infamous Chilean hot dog, the ‘completo.’
Music. Again, all sorts. I like finding new music as I travel and love to play the piano. I started piano as an adult, and was thankful to find the best teacher ever 4 years back. I love Chopin.
Visual Arts. I’ve loved photography from the time my dad let me use his old, fully-manual, 35mm camera in high school. I am mostly digital, but can occasionally be found in my wet darkroom, usually processing and printing 120 film from my Holga. I paint a bit too, but don’t claim any skill at it.
Work. During the day, and sometimes during the weekends, I work in the television industry, specifically with the technology behind interactive television. This is a bit ironic given that I don’t actually watch much television, but I have a good job that fuels my hobbies, and I hope that one day all of our work in the industry will make television more interesting and compelling!
I followed your comment from CommuteByBike here to your blog — wow, amazing photos!

I did a big bike trip through Belguim, Holland and across France. Come visit us. I live with my Mexican wife and daughter. We live close to Mexico’s Copper Canyon and near the beach. I wish you happy travels.
Dan,
Hola Anne,
I think what you are doing is absolutely amazing!!! It never occurred to me to travel in this manner. I would love to plan a cycling trip similar to yours. How safe is it to travel this way? What precautions do you take to ensure your safety? Safety is my biggest concern when traveling. Any advice you or anyone else can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Buena Suerte,
Maria Lilly
Anne, you’re a very impressive person. I wish there were more like you. In the Middle East, there’s very little focus on environmental issues, and too much focus on The Conflict. I’m among many trying to end it. Here’s wishing us both success!
