Sunrise at Haleakala Crater is spectacular when it isn’t cloudy at the top. My mom and I decided to get up well before dawn and risk it if the skies looked reasonably clear from the shore. After a little GPS mishap we wound our way up the windy mountain to the top, just in time for dawn. It was spectacular, as were the banana macadamia pancakes we found on the way back down.
